Last updated : May 31, 2026
This Privacy Policy ("Policy") describes how Kampio ("Kampio", "we", "us") collects, uses, discloses, and protects personal information when you use kampio.com and related services (the "Platform").
It applies to campers, visitors, campground owners, and anyone interacting with the Platform. By using Kampio, you acknowledge that you have read this Policy.
These terms govern use of Kampio and online bookings made through the platform. They do not replace personalized legal advice.
1. Data controller
The controller of personal information collected through the Platform is Kampio.
For any privacy-related question, you may contact us at contact@kampio.com.
2. Scope
This Policy covers information collected online through the Platform, including browsing, account creation, favorites, bookings, payments, forum activity, reviews, support communications, and the owner area.
It does not cover third-party websites or services accessed via external links, nor campground practices once your information has been transmitted to execute a booking.
3. Information we collect
Depending on your use, we may collect:
• Identity and contact: name, email, phone (if provided), language.
• Account: credentials, password (stored securely), profile photo, notification preferences.
• Booking: selected campground, dates, party size, site/unit type, pets, amounts, booking status.
• Payment: transaction IDs, payment status, amounts; full card numbers are processed by our payment provider.
• User content: reviews, forum messages, favorites, support requests.
• Owners: campground information, business contact details, revenue and commission data.
• Technical: IP address, device type, browser, pages viewed, security logs, cookies, and session IDs.
• Anti-fraud: verification data (e.g. Cloudflare Turnstile) when enabled.
4. How we use information
We use your information to:
• provide and improve the Platform;
• create and manage your account;
• process, confirm, and track bookings;
• transmit necessary information to the relevant campground;
• process payments, commissions, and owner payouts;
• prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents;
• respond to requests and provide support;
• publish and moderate forum content and reviews;
• comply with legal, accounting, and tax obligations;
• send service-related communications according to your preferences.
5. Legal grounds
Depending on context, we rely on:
• performance of a contract or pre-contractual steps (e.g. processing a booking);
• your consent (e.g. certain communications, non-essential cookies where required);
• our legitimate interests (e.g. security, service improvement, fraud prevention), where they do not unduly affect your rights;
• compliance with legal obligations (e.g. accounting retention, lawful requests from authorities).
In Quebec, we follow applicable private-sector privacy principles, including the Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector and, where applicable, Law 25.
6. Sharing with third parties
We do not sell your personal information.
We may disclose it, as necessary, to:
• campgrounds and owners, to execute a booking or respond to a request;
• payment providers (e.g. Stripe);
• hosting, email, security, anti-bot, and infrastructure providers;
• professional advisors bound by confidentiality;
• public authorities when required by law or to protect legitimate rights.
These parties receive only the information required for their mandate and must protect it under applicable obligations.
7. Bookings
When you book through Kampio, we transmit to the campground the information needed to host and manage your stay (e.g. name, contact details, dates, party size, selected options).
From that point, the campground is also responsible for the information it holds to welcome you and meet its legal obligations. We recommend reviewing the campground's practices when available.
8. Payments
Online payments are processed by a secure third-party provider. Kampio does not store full card numbers.
We may retain transaction references, amounts, statuses, booking IDs, and data needed for accounting, commissions, refunds, and fraud prevention.
9. Campground owners
If you are an owner, we process information related to your account, listings, received bookings, revenue, commissions, and communications with Kampio.
This data is used to manage your presence on the Platform, calculate commissions, process payouts, and provide owner support.
10. Forum, reviews, and public content
Messages posted on the forum, reviews left on a listing, or any content you make public may be visible to other users.
Do not publish sensitive information or contact details you do not wish to share publicly. We may moderate or remove content under our Terms of use.
11. Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies for site operation, including:
• session and authentication;
• language and preferences;
• security and abuse prevention;
• audience measurement or service improvement, when enabled.
You can configure your browser to refuse certain cookies. Refusing essential cookies may limit some features (sign-in, booking).
12. Retention
We retain your information as long as necessary for the purposes described, including:
• active account: for the duration of the relationship;
• bookings and payments: for stay management, disputes, commissions, and accounting obligations;
• technical logs: for a limited security-related period;
• support requests: for the time needed to handle the request.
Some data may be kept longer when required by law or to establish, exercise, or defend a legal claim.
13. Security
We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information (access controls, encryption in transit where applicable, protected passwords, logging).
No system is completely secure. If a confidentiality incident presents a risk of serious harm, we may notify you and relevant authorities as required by applicable law.
14. Your rights
Depending on applicable law, you may:
• access personal information we hold about you;
• request correction if it is inaccurate or incomplete;
• request deletion, subject to legal exceptions (e.g. booking retention);
• withdraw consent where processing is consent-based;
• request portability of certain data, where applicable;
• object to certain processing based on legitimate interest, within legal limits.
15. Exercising your rights
From your Kampio account, you can update certain information and download a copy of your data using the export feature in "My account".
For any other request (access, correction, deletion, booking-related question), email us at contact@kampio.com with your request and, if possible, the email address linked to your account. We may ask you to verify your identity before handling a sensitive request.
We respond within a reasonable time, in accordance with applicable law.
16. Minors
The Platform is not directed to children under 14. We do not knowingly collect their personal information without valid parental consent where required.
If you believe a minor has provided information to us, contact us so we can take appropriate steps.
17. Transfers outside Quebec or Canada
Your information is mainly hosted and processed in Canada. Some providers (e.g. payment, security, email) may process data in the United States or elsewhere.
When information is disclosed outside Quebec or Canada, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place under applicable law.
18. Automated tools and assistant
Kampio may offer search assistance or a conversational assistant. Messages you submit may be processed to understand your request and suggest campgrounds or answers.
We do not use these tools to make decisions producing significant legal effects concerning you without human involvement, unless explicitly stated otherwise.
19. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy to reflect changes in our practices, the Platform, or the law. The "Last updated" date shows the current version.
For material changes, we may notify you via the Platform or email. Continued use after publication constitutes acknowledgment, subject to consent where required by law.
20. Complaint to an authority
If you believe your personal information is not handled in accordance with the law, contact us first at contact@kampio.com so we can address your concern.
